Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
For the past several weeks, and even months, you have been hearing and praying about the Capital Campaign to repair and restore our church in preparation for the Centennial Celebration or 100th anniversary of this building. It is a great joy that we have the opportunity to share in this expression of honor for all those who have gone before us and claimed St. Thomas Aquinas as their parish – their spiritual home. These individuals and families worked so hard to build and maintain this church so that we could benefit spiritually from God’s abundant grace.
We also do this as we look ahead with faith and hope in the future. Many of our children will get married here and have their children baptized here. Hundreds will receive their First Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation here. Some may even be ordained here, and most of us will have our funeral Mass celebrated here. Recently, I heard about one of those doomsday articles that quoted statistics about the many “Catholics” leaving the Church. But how many have and will continue to receive instruction here and become True and committed Catholics.
It is not just about us, Brothers and Sisters. It’s primarily about GOD. He dwells in this church both spiritually and physically. He fulfills His promise to remain with us until the end of time. And so as much as we come together here and grow as a loving community by sharing with one another, it would not be possible if it weren’t for His Divine, True and Real Presence in the Tabernacle. We must honor that living Presence even more that we honor our ancestors or build for future generations. God as the Eternal I AM calls us together unto Himself and He sends us forth with gifts of love, strength and courage to accomplish His Divine Will.
I ask you, Brothers and Sisters, to please prayerfully consider this request to generously support this Capital Campaign. You will see in this booklet what we hope to accomplish, and how much it will cost. Please be as generous as you can. I realize that for many the finances are tight. It’s going to mean a sacrifice to give. But it’s God that sees and knows the sacrifice. HE will reward your gratitude for the past and your hope for the future. May He bless you with peace and joy in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, and in the power of the Holy Spirit…Amen
God bless you all,
Fr. Bruce Czapla, ofm
